Good morning, everybody. It’s Danny from Prowired Electrical. I hope you had a good weekend. I thought I’d just use this time to reflect on our last week, what went on in the business, what good things, what bad things and so forth.
I’ve done a stupid amount of hours, which isn’t good. I need to stop doing it, but it had to be done last week, unfortunately, but it was well worth it because we won four new build jobs, and a few others that I think we’re going to get this week, which is good.
Not all new build Work, a bit of commercial work and then industrial work too, which is good.
Last week we had the Construction Expo. You might have seen some LinkedIn posts and social media posts from us. That was a really cool day, any business that thinks they’re not suited in that environment, go and do it. You know, it was the first year and was scary as hell.
Now it’s our third year. We’ve just booked for the fourth year, same stand, same position. And I do believe that you really get something out of it by just physically being there year after year after year and making people aware that you’re still around.
It’s a mad world at the moment and I think that seeing the same faces, the same conversations every year after year, I think it’s very positive for the business and I think it’s very cool.
So last week, apparently it was a good week. I’ll go by the two new girls, which you might have seen that we’ve taken on, both doing really well. I appreciate they’re both very new to the work world, but, to be fair, they take it totally in their stride.
They’ve jumped on board. They haven’t been scared of anything. Obviously a bit apprehensive for certain things, but we’ll give them the training. We’ll point them in the right direction. Everyone’s here in the office to support them. So I’m sure it’ll be absolutely fine. Quote of the week last week was, opportunities don’t happen, you create them.
I didn’t even write that. That’s probably the best one we actually had. It was by Elizabeth, the new girl in our office. I’ll have to sort it out, get the minutes from the meeting sorted, get them in the folder ready for the next meeting. We’re going to do it again today. This is Monday morning. Again, I’m in early.
And, I think that, yeah, how true that is. Opportunities don’t happen to us. Everything Prowired have done, me and Nathan together as a business, has happened because of hard work. It hasn’t just come at the drop of a hat. It’s yours to take, you’ve got to go and you’ve got to go and want it to get it to have the drive and to have the dedication to go out and try your best to do it.
It’s very easy there’s been many many times I’m thinking what on earth am I doing? A bit like these Vlog things. Thanks to Rita, who does some of the work for me and I still do them every week just to show everyone what we’re up to and what good we’re doing in the business and how we can strive forward.
Last week apparently was a very good week. Very positive. I’m looking at the board. Sorry, I’ll just show you that board, same board every week, same questions.
Positive last week, we got all our jobs up to date, we’ve got paperwork sorted, we’ve got processes in place, what needs to happen going forward.
So hopefully we’re better sorted. We’ve run better planning on certain jobs, which is good. The stores has taken a turn, which is fantastic. Up to date prices we’ve got, we’re getting there. Got the girls learning Simpro, so that was good last week. They really took that on board. There’s a lot to take in Simpro, if anyone knows the Simpro world.
Got a few quotes out. A lot happened last week. Love it. Probably too much last week if I’m brutally honest, but it’s fine. I’ve met some good people and I’m hoping that the stuff we’ve got… I mean, there aren’t many people at the moment, that have got £1.6 million worth of work on their books for next year.
I hope everyone does well and I think we’re in a very good place for next year, which is always my aim because last Christmas was a different story.
Negative from last week was we were a bit behind on some timesheets. We were doing some small work for some reason that was too demanding. It just took too much time, too much money. We sort of re-evaluated that. We won’t be doing that again.
We’ve got to get better at our quote turnaround time. We were too slow. And better planning the jobs, better estimating. Simpro Stock Adjustment and Simpro Attachment. Simpro’s got a glitch, that you can’t attach an email, which they did, and it’s just been a bit of a pain, really, if I’m brutally honest.
They need to just fix it. James Cannon, massively trying to help me. He’s probably the only one there at the moment that’s actually trying to do something. All I get at the moment is excuses. Don’t get me wrong, the software is fantastic, but times like this, you need the support with the infrastructures behind the business to make it work.
And at the moment, it’s not happening, so they need to sort it out, basically. Something to improve on for this week was Simpro Stock Adjustment and honestly we didn’t get around to it, it was too busy. So hopefully we’ll do that this week.
Assets, get our assets up to date, what guys have got what, who’s in what vehicle. So that’s all in the system ready. Better planning, timesheets on time, hopefully this week. And better estimating, and hopefully, you know, we might be looking for an estimator, very soon. So I think that’ll be good for the business, personally.
Other than that, a good week. What have I learned last week? I learned… Do you know what? It just re-evaluated how important it is to meet people. And business is stuff about businesses and that’s the old saying, people buy out of businesses. And last week I met 15 people, everyone had a good perception of ProWired, which is always good to hear.
Everyone loved the branding, which is very cool actually, I’ve got to admit. Something that I’ve always strived to get to, and lucky we did with the help of Bison. But, yeah, it’s important, relationships are important. People to talk, there’s a lot of this at the moment that people just don’t want to talk about stuff.
I’m a bit of a sharer, if you like, and I think that it’s better to talk, get it out in the open, get it sorted, move on, next day, or literally for me, next minute. But I learned a lot last week, 1 million people, stories. Got a new book delivered, which will come out this week, The Diary of a CEO by Stephen Bartlett.
I haven’t even opened it yet, I just finished the franchise book, which was awesome which just blew my mind if I’m honest. Monday morning meeting again, good week last week. Really the most positive week I’ve had in six, eight months, for sure.
I’m hoping before January, we can secure some more work, which will be absolutely awesome for the business. Thanks everybody. Have a good week. Keep striving, keep doing what you need to do, and I hope to see you all soon.
